Chestatee - Chattahoochee RC&D Council

The Chestatee Chattahoochee Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps people care for natural resources and improve the quality of life in their communities. The RC&D Council (volunteers representing public and private sector sponsors and other local organizations) undertakes community driven actions that are strategically focused on regional resource conservation and economic viability.
Position Summary: This position is to assist with an urban forestry planting grant that will be implemented during the Fall / Winter planting season. The position will require experience in the urban forestry/arborist field. Only Certified Arborists will receive consideration. The job will require experience in outreach and education in the urban forestry field. This is a temporary, part time, contracted position.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience. Contract Time period: August 2010 – February 2011

Major Duties:
1. Provide the following arborist technical assistance to local communities in a Northeast Georgia region.
A. Assist with Final site plans
B. Assist with reviewing of bid documentation
C. Provide technical assistance for onsite planting
2. Assist with workshops and training to local governments and citizens.
A. Develop outreach and training materials on urban tree care.
B. Assist with Arbor Day activities.
3. Agree that in consideration of Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds, you will comply with all of the terms, conditions, requirements and limitations set forth in the contract agreement.

Education and Experience Required:
1. Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and/or Georgia Arborist Association (GAA)
2. 4 years experience in the urban forestry field
3. High school diploma

Qualifications: Applicants should have the following qualifications:
1. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
2. Skills in program and project management including budget oversight, workload management and accomplishment reporting.
3. Ability to meet and deal effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, as well as ability to build partnerships with a wide range of groups and organizations.
4. Ability to work cooperatively with individuals, community groups, business and government agencies to build partnerships.
5. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
6. Ability to speak professionally in front of large groups.
7. Must be physically able to do tree related work (planting trees, pruning, etc.).
8. Experience in water quality issues and grant management will receive high preference.


Other Requirements: Applicants must have an office in one of the following counties: Union, Towns, Rabun, Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Habersham, Stephens, Hall, Banks, Franklin, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Henry, Newton, Columbia, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Elbert, Barrow, Clarke, Oglethorpe, Walton, Oconee, Morgan, Greene, Taliaferro, Warren or McDuffie. The Contractor will be required to provide his or her own transportation to meet work requirements and be willing to travel to these counties to perform the duties associated with this position. The Council reserves the right to require random drug screening during the contract period.

A Class 5 Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months, is required for this position.

Selection process will include the successful completion of a pre-employment background and substance abuse screening.

Duties: The Tree Surgeon will operate the bucket truck, chipper, chain saw, trucks and tractors. Incumbent will also plant new trees and remove old tree limbs and/or trees. He/She must be able to detect diseased trees and apply proper applications to administer.

Education: High School/GED or Vocational School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Two or more years of job related experience. Prefer at least two years experience specifically as a Tree Surgeon with at least five years experience in climbing. Successful candidate must be able to use safety ropes and have a thorough knowledge of tree safety. Supervisory experience is a plus.
